"Finally, actor-singer Jesse McCartney capped the night. Flanked by a full band and back-up singers/dancers, McCartney moved through nearly an hour's worth of hits including "Beautiful Soul," "My Baby," "Freaky" and "Makeup." The latter two songs emphasized McCartney's image as a squeaky-voiced, baby-faced Justin Timberlake: He's grown-up and sexy but still safe enough for your daughter.
Still, like Perry before him, the 21-year-old singer is charismatic and energetic, but his songs are largely formulaic and his stage presence void of any real, inspired spontaneity.
Of course, the girls didn't seem to mind, and as screams of "Jesse! Jesse! Jesse!" echoed like thunder through Arco Arena, only the most Scrooge-hearted would dare to suggest (out loud, at least) that McCartney was anything less than the perfect holiday gift."
